Donor representatives on Friday expressed concerns about the Tarai unrest and uncertainty over the formation of the National Reconstruction Authority. At the 14th NPPR meet in Kathmandu on Friday, they warned the ongoing Tarai protests could not only affect the constitution-making process, but also the implementation of development projects, said Bhuwan Karki, under secretary at the Finance Ministry. The donors also expressed disappointment over the uncertainty over formation of the authority despite the allocation of Rs74 billion. The donors have pledged $4.4 billion for reconstruction efforts. Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat, however, termed the ongoing protests in Tarai as “labour pain” in the statute-making process.
