The infamous Charles Sobhraj serving time for murder on Monday filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking a verdict in favour of increment of the daily food allowance provided to the prisoners.
In the petition, Sobhraj, 70, has stated that Rs 45 provided as daily food allowance is not feasible for filling the stomach and taking nutritious food. The government provides Rs 45 and 700 grams of rice grains to a prisoner on a daily basis.
Until 2006 the amount was Rs 30 and later was increased to Rs 45. The petition further claims that the meager amount provided to the prisoners is against the right to live.
