CIAA probe quake relief expenses
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started investigating the expenses that government made in relief and rehabilitation in Ramechhap district after the April 25 earthquake.The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started investigating the expenses that government made in relief and rehabilitation in Ramechhap district after the April 25 earthquake.
After several complaints of misuse and carelessness in distribution of relief cash and supplies, the CIAA began investigation into the matter. The CIAA had
received complaints against the VDCs and municipalities for violating the due process while purchasing and distributing relief materials as well as while handing out relief cash to victims.
There were also several complaints against fake earthquake victims.
The team will investigate about the expenses during post-earthquake period, process of purchasing relief materials, quality of materials, market value and relief distribution process.
A CIAA official informed that they will investigate all the distributed commodities and relief amount.
There are hundreds of complaints regarding the misuse while distributing earthquake ID cards and relief amount, the official said.
