Four injured as police open fire at demonstration in Rautahat

Four protesters sustained bullet injuries as police opened fire at a demonstration taken out by Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha in Rautahat. The Morcha supporters also vandalised some police posts in Dhanusha and reportedly fired at the security personnel who were escorting vehicles along the Siraha stretch of the East-West Highway.
In Rautahat, security forces opened fired at demonstrators at Gaur for defying curfew order. Shesha Mairudin of Akolawa-7, Lal Babu Patel and Chandeshwor Baitha of Gaur-7, and Shekha Kamaruddin of Jingadawa were injured. Critically injured Mairudin and Patel were taken to Birgunj for treatment.
Clash also ensued at Kabir Chowk as the protesters attempted to enter into the bazaar area during the curfew hour. Police said they fired 25 rounds of bullets and lobbed dozens of teargas canisters to contain the situation.
In Dhanusha district, the Morcha activists vandalised and torched police posts at Hansapur, Nikal, Laliya, Mukhiyapati Musaraniya and Banarjhulal.
After the local administration clamped curfew in Janakpur, the Morcha moved their protest to rural areas. They organised a condolence meeting at Kanakpati Bazaar to commemorate three protesters died in police firing.
In Siraha, the Morcha protesters allegedly fired at the security personnel who were while escorting vehicles. Superintendent of Police Ram Kripal Sah said three rounds were fired at police in which Constable Bipin Rai was injured.
A pressure cooker bomb was also recovered near the Nepali Congress party office at Siraha Municipality-7. The improvised explosive device was defused by a Nepal Army bomb disposal team.
The Morcha also took out a protest rally at Biratnagar in Morang district. The rally was participated by hundreds of Morcha supporters, many of them were brought from outside the town.

BARA: Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha leaders on Sunday said that a forcefully promulgated constitution will not last long. Speaking at a function in Kailali district , Chairman of Sadbhawana Party Rajendra Mahato said they will continue the protest until they get their rights. Chairman of Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party Mahendra Yadav warned of intensifying their protest if the constitution is promulgated without their support.
School opens after one month
DANG: Schools at Deukhuri in Dang district resumed after nearly one month on Sunday. Schools there were closed due to the banda called by the Tharuhat/Tharuwan Struggle Committee. The committee agreed to let the schools operate following the requests of the civil society, school operators, parents and human rights activists.
Gurungs demand Tamuwan state
POKHARA: The Gurung community in Kaski district staged a demonstration on Sunday, demanding that there should be a separate Tamuwan state. The demonstration was spearheaded by Tamuwan Joint Struggle Committee which also unveiled plans for its second phase of protest. Committee Chairman Hum Bahadur Gurung said there should be a separate Tamuwan state based on the identity of the Gurung people. He also demanded that the constitution should guarantee inclusion and proportional representation of all communities and secularism.
