The Constituent Assembly on Wednesday approved provisions to form seven federal commissions in the constitution to address the grievances of marginalised communities, including Tharus, Madhesis, Muslim, women and Janajatis after the promulgation of constitution.

The commissions will have the mandate to protect the rights of minorities. As well as formulating policies and programmes to promote the welfare of the respective communities, they will also offer recommendation to the government for its implementation. The commissions are also entitled to review whether the government has implemented its commitments for the welfare of the respective communities.

The CA also approved a provision to form a federal commission to resolve disputes on provincial boundaries. The commission, to be formed within six months of statute promulgation, will make suggestions on the number and borders of the village council, municipal Council and special protected or autonomous regions which will be approved by the government.

However, following the demands from the different maginalised communities and the Supreme Court directive, the major three parties had registered amendment proposal on September 6.
