Matters related to the completion of the constitution-writing process and efforts underway for consensus to bring on board the disgruntled groups were discussed during the meeting.
On the occasion, UCPN (M) Chairman Dahal briefed visiting Indian Extern Affairs Secretary Janashanker that the statute writing process saw the complete shape on consensus among major political parties and over two-thirds majority of the Constituent Assembly (CA) members ratified the bill of the new constitution which later was authenticated by CA Chairman.
Dahal also told him that the constitution was ‘the document of full compromise’ as there was the participation of over 91 per cent of CA members in the constitution-making process.
On the occasion, UCPN (Maoist) Vice-President Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who is also heading the party’s Foreign Department, informed that the meeting focused on the constitution writing process and bilateral relations between Nepal and India.
Shrestha said the Indian Extern Affairs Secretary expressed India’s wish to see promulgation of the new constitution in Nepal by bringing all sides to consensus. However, Nepal’s political parties are independent to take a decision to that end.
The Indian side has also expressed happiness stating Nepal’s constitution making process has reached to a concrete stage, Shrestha added.
The dialogue and negotiation with disgruntled sides shall continue until the completion of the process to frame a new constitution and the talks with Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) took place on Friday as well, the UCPN (Maoist) leaders briefed the special envoy.
UCPN (Maoist) leaders present on the occasion were chair Dahal, senior leader Baburam Bhattarai and Vice-chairperson Shrestha while special envoy Jayashanker was accompanied by Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae. RSS
