In a joint statement issued on behalf of Nepal Media Society, Chairman Kailash Sirohiya and General Secretary Subha Shankar Kandel, have expressed joy over the endorsement of constitution by Constituent Assembly and its promulgation on Sunday. Nepal Media Society is an umbrella organization of Nepal’s broadcast and print media.
Nepal’s first constitution written by a Constituent Assembly should be able to strengthen Nepal sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while fulfilling the aspirations of people, the statement said.
The statement has also drawn attention to the need to address the dissatisfaction seen during the drafting of the constitution and stressed on accommodation of all genuine demands through a continuous process of dialogue within a democratic framework.
The society has also expressed hope that the Article 19 of the constitution, which has clauses intended to curb full press freedom, will be removed by the transformed parliament.
