Tension in Birgunj, one killed in police firing, protesters vandalise UML lawmaker's residence

A clash ensued after the police tried to stop the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) cadres tried to enter the urban area via Ghantagar area.
A protester died and three others injured when police opened fire. The deceased has been identified as Satrudhna Patel. Critically injured Patel was taken to Narayani Subregional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, a hospital staff Rameshwor Singh said.
He sustained bullet during a clash at Maisthan area.
The protesters have been staging demonstrations at Chapakaiya, Nagawa and Murali Chok area.
UML Lawmaker's residence vandalised
The protesters have vandalised the residence of CPN-UML lawmaker Rajkumar Gupta at Birgunj-17. But the police have dispersed the protesters.
Police have fired a few black shots and teargas shells to chase the agitated mob at Ghantaghar area.
There security personnel including Inspector Sekh Adalat have been injured.
Demo in Nepalgunj
Meanwhile, cadres of Syamukti Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha have been staging demonstrations in Nepalgunj of Banke district. The protesters tying a black band chanted slogans against Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
