Violence continues unabated in Tarai

At least 12 people sustained bullet injuries when security forces opened at demonstrators in Morang, Rautahat and Sarlahi districts on Monday.
In Morang, three persons, including a 12-year-old boy, were injured in police firing at Mahavir Chowk of Biratnagar. Eyewitnesses said the victims were watching the demonstration from the roof of a house when the bullets fired by police hit them.
Ajaya Sahani, 12, Rinku Keshari, 17, and Bishal Keshari, 22, were injured in the incident.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Kharel said the incident occured when security personnel fired warning shots into the air to push back the demonstrators.
Six protesters were injured in a clash in Roadshesh Chowk as well. The clash ensued when police intervened as the activists of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha were burning the new constitution. Police also misbehaved with journalists, including the local correspondent of the Post, Abadhesh Kumar Jha.
In Sarlahi, Bikram Raya, Rupesh Paswan and Nitesh Yadav suffered gunshot wounds during a demonstration at Malangawa. Police claimed they were compelled to open fire as the demonstrators, who had set fire to the house of CPN-UML lawmaker Kamaladevi Mahato, tried to obstruct a fire engine that had come to put out the fire.
The Morcha supporters also burned the copies of the new constitution and pelted stones at the District Police Office and the District Court.
Security forces fired rubber bullets at Morcha supporters who were burning the copies of new constitution at Garuda Bazaar in Rautahat district. Six people were injured in the shooting. The local administration clamped indefinite curfew in the area after the situation got tense.
In Parsa, demonstrators vandalised the house of CPN-UML lawmaker Raj Kumar Gupta at Birgunj.
Sanghiya Limbuwan Party supporters clashed with police at Birtamod in Jhapa. Police fired several warning shots to disperse the agitated crowd. The Limbuwan cadres also tried to burn the new constitution.
More than 10 people were hurt in clashes that erupted at Kalaiya of Bara district. Police used tear gas and fired warning shots to disperse the Morcha supporters. The protesters vandalised the houses of Nepali Congress lawmakers Radhechandra Yadav and Lalbabu Singh.
Morcha and Limbuwan supporters staged demonstrations in districts like Siraha, Mahottari, Saptari, Sunsari, Dhanusha and Nawalparasi districts. They burned the new constitution claiming that it does not address their concerns of marginalised and ethnic communities.
