CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said he does not believe that India will halt the supply of goods to Nepal.

Responding to the queries of journalists at a tea reception held at the Dasrath Stadium in Kathmandu to welcome the new constitution on Tuesday, Oli said there was no truth in the rumour about India not allowing the supply of petro products and the entry of vehicles to Nepal via Nepal-India border.

He said he believed that India would continue to treat Nepal as it has been as a close neighbour.

The UML chairman also said that the demands of dissenting groups can be addressed through amendments to the constitution and there was no need to resort to violent activities to protest the constitution.

Nepali Congress Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudyal said the rumour that India halted the supply of goods to Nepal was untrue.  “Bilateral talks will be held if any unusual situation arises,” he said. UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said it is beyond imagination that India would impose an embargo on Nepal to show its objection to the new constitution.

He also said that talks with the agitating groups are underway.
