A mobile application to register gender based violence has been launched in the Capital on Monday.A mobile application to register gender based violence has been launched in the Capital on Monday.
The application titled ‘Nidarr’ is expected to help victims of gender-based violence get easy access to justice, enabling them to lodge complaints by using the application.
“We had been trying to find ways to mitigate violence against women and we have designed an application which will help the victims file complain from the very spot they were abused by using a mobile phone,” said Amudha Mishra, executive director of Ujalyo Foundation, the organisation that designed the application.
Mishra added that the application takes very little time and is very easy to file complaints.
Victims of domestic violence can make phone calls, send texts and even send video recordings of scenes of violence through the application. This application is currently available on Android mobiles.
Besides helping the victims register complaints, the application also provide them information about the nearest place they can reach out for help, with the name and contact numbers of the organisations working in the field being enlisted in the application.
Similarly, an interaction among organisations working in the field of violence against women was also held to find ways to make the best use of the application among such organisations by providing services to the victims.
“An application like this will surely help victims file complain as often times they simply stay quite and decide against going out in the public and sharing their complaints for fear. Now they can lodge complain without having to step out of their home,” said Uma Thapa, communications officer at the Women for Human Rights Single Women Group.
According to Thapa the challenge now is to raise awareness about the mobile software among women from rural and remote parts of the country can also make use of the application.
