Call to make Kathmandu a cycle city

In the midst of an acute fuel crisis gripping the country in the recent days, the Heritage Conservation and Tourism Promotion Section under the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) organised a programme where concerned stakeholders discussed various environment-friendly alternatives to transportation in the city.
According to Shriju Pradhan, chief of the section, it is high time to discuss
and plan programmes and policies on sustainable transport system, including development infrastructures such as bicycle lanes, pedestrian and disable-friendly mode of transport along with public transportation inside Kathmandu Valley.
“Kathmandu could transform itself into an eco-friendly city with measures to promote its citizens to use clean forms of transportation and help in reducing the consumption of imported fossil fuels,” she said.
