The first order of business will be election of the new prime minister, followed by the President, Vice President and Speaker and deputy Speaker. A new PM is expected to be confirmed within a week.
The new constitution stipulates that the prime minister is elected within seven
days of the start of the House session.
The Speaker and the deputy Speaker have to be elected within 20 days, and the President and Vice President within a month.
After the election of the prime minister, the Parliament Secretariat will have to update the rules of procedure in line with the new constitution to hold elections for the other four positions.
Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang said he will table a proposal on Friday for formulating interim rules of procedure. The current rules of procedure were prepared on the basis of the provisions in the Interim Constitution-2007.
