Ornithologists gather in Sauraha to deliberate on condition of birds in Nepal

The gathering of national ornithologists and two English ornithologists is believed to deliberate on the status of birds in the country, including some 66 species of birds that are on the verge of extinction, according to ornithologist Dr Hem Sagar Baral.
Of the total 9,000 species of birds existing on earth, there are altogether 875 species of birds in Nepal. Chitwan alone is house to 629 varieties of birds, shared Dr Baral
The ornithologists are also likely to formulate new strategy in view of conserving and developing various species of birds, informed Basu Bidari, immediate past Chairperson of Bird Education Society, Chitwan.
Speaking in the inaugural of the event, Karan Shah, Chairperson of the Himalayan Nature, confided that the study about birds was more effective than that of other animals.
In addition, the ornithologists will also furnish recommendation in connection to the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1973, which is being amended.
Currently there are nine types of birds in the conservation lists. The event is likely to revise the list, it is said.
