As Laligurans Municipality only plans to repair their existing infrastructure, staffers expect difficulty in providing service

Oct 4, 2015-In the lack of infrastructure, officials of the newly announced Laligurans Municipality plan to work from the offices of the erstwhile Village Development Committees.

Then Phulek, Sungnam, Dangapa, Solma and Basantapur VDCs were made a single administrative

unit as Laligurans Municipality, named after the national flower rhododendron that Tehrathum district is famous for.

Acting Executive Officer of the municipality, Mahendra Bhahadur Ghimire said they were preparing to run the office at the same VDC building. “As we cannot construct a new building immediately, we are repairing the existing infrastructure,” said Ghimire.

The municipality will be inaugurated on October 9. Ghimire added that they expect to expend Rs1 million for the repairs and management of the infrastructure.

Other staffers expect difficulties in serving the public immediately. The Municipality Management Section of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development had directed all the VDCs upgraded to municipality on September 18 to follow the new set-up from September 23.

Laxman Tiwari, a local, said they would gather some 25,000 people from all of the municipal area at Basantapur for the inauguration.

The total number of municipalities in the country has reached 217.
