In kavre, consumers are being cheated by some unscrupulous businessmen taking advantage of the fuel crisis. A local Lal Kumar Shrestha complained that the shopkeepers were found charging arbitrary prices of the same goods.
Similarly, other locals have complained that the traders were creating artificial shortage of goods and commodities and indulging in black marketing.
However, Kavre Chamber of Commerce chair Sur Krishna Shrestha took the step of hiking prices as normal in such critical situations.
Assistant Chief District Officer Arjun Sharma said that they were monitoring the market and have brought under the legal action those who were taking advantages of the crisis by charging exorbitant prices.
Similarly, in Udayapur district in the east, black marketing has increased in the local markets in the hilly areas of the district.
The continuous Tarai/Madhes shutdown and the undeclared trade embargo by India has led to a shortage of goods in the local markets, prompting price hike and black marketing, it is learnt.
Likewise, in Mustang, the flow of Indian tourists has drastically reduced after the blockade. Usually, the number of Indian pilgrims who used to make a beeline at Kagbeni and Muktinath Temple at this time of the year for performing rituals of making offering to the souls of their dead parents, ancestors and relatives, has gone down this time due to the lack of vehicles and the blockade.
