According to District Police Office, Ramechhap, the passengers who got on the night bus (Na 5 Kha 7682) from Itahari were found unconscious on Tuesday morning. The victims have been identified as Dillinath Devkota, Shyama-5 in of Dolakha, Dilli Prashad Dahal, of Kavre VDC in the district.
They are receiving medical attention at Manthali Polyclinic now. Police suspect that they could have been knocked out by using sedatives on the way to Ramechhap in the bus. Police have detained the drive and conductor of the bus for interrogation.
Police Inspector Makhan Prasad Yadav said that the bus had stopped in Portaha, Siraha at 11 pm for a short break on Monday. Devkota and Dahal were found sleeping in the bus passage. The bus staff reportedly didn’t wake them up guessing that they might have been asleep. But they found out that the two had passed out after they did not wake up until morning.
District Police Office informed that Dahal is semi-conscious whereas Devkota is completely unconscious. Police recovered Rs 71,608 from Devkota’s clothes. However, no money has been found from Dahal’s possession. Police said that there is no official information on the exact amount of money looted from them.
Most of the passengers arriving from India travel by the bus as it is the only bus that operates at night in Kakadvitta-Manthali route.
