The cross-party lawmakers have demanded the government to resolve the current crisis in the country through diplomatic dealing and to expedite the process of opening transit points in the north with China.

Speaking at Parliament meeting on Friday, they sought clarification from the government over the present unofficial blockade imposed on the country by India. They also criticised the ministers who have been claiming there is no blockade from the Indian side. They also accused the government of failing to take proper step to end the crisis.

Around a dozen of lawmakers from various major and fringe parties had put their views at the meeting.

CPN-UML Vice-chairman and lawmaker Bhim Rawal said India violated the international and bilateral agreements by imposing the blockade. Direct interference in our internal affairs will not be acceptable, he said.

Rawal also criticised the government for not raising the issue of Indian blockade before the international community.

UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Agni Sapkota criticised the government for not taking serious steps to open the transit points with China. “It’s been six months since the entry point to Khasa was blocked, but no step has been taken to open it,” Sapkota said.

Araniko Highway, the major road linking Nepal and China, has been blocked due to the devastating earthquake on April 25.

Senior leader of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal lawmaker Ashok Kumar Rai accused the government of not being proactive and serious toward solving the crisis. He also blamed the government for overlooking the agitations carried out by Madhesi and Janajati communities.
