Gurung sets two new nat’l records

Three national records were set on the second day with the other feat coming in 4x100m freestyle relay. Gurung’s first national record came in the 400m freestyle where he timed 4:36.78 to clinch gold. He bettered his previous best timing of 4:47.38 set during the 2013 second NSA Cup. TAC duo of Devesh Manandhar and Dipesh Chaudhary finished second and third respectively.
Gurung also bettered his own record of 2:30.25 in the men’s 200m individual medley to win the gold with a timing of 2:26.03. Kripa Karki and Rupesh Chaudhary – also from TAC – completed an Army domination in the event with silver and bronze respectively. Gurung had set 1500m freestyle national record on the opening day apart from claiming six gold medals.
Central Region team of Jitzwelly Maharjan, Tisha Shakya, Oshina Bharati and Rashika Poudel set the new women’s 4X100m freestyle relay record clocking 5:08.94. The quartet broke the 16-year old record of 5:09.58 set by Laxmi, Rubina, Runa and Stuti during the 1999 eighth South Asian Games that was held in Kathmandu.
