Passenger vehicles in the district have been hiked fares saying that they had to purchase fuel paying additional amount.
Locals said they have to pay thrice as much as the usual fare in the local routes.
Kamal Adhikari of Pipaldanda said he paid Rs 300 for a route for which he used to pay just Rs 80 in the past. He said transport entrepreneurs also threaten people saying they will not operate vehicles from the next day.
Locals said they have to pay as much as Rs 2000 to hire a reserved vehicle in Chilangdi-Tansen route. Manoj Poudel, a local resident, said many people are facing problems to reach their houses for the upcoming festivals. “We have been compelled to pay exorbitant fare due to fuel shortage caused by Tarai banda and Indian blockade,” he said.
Suman Gaire of Darlamdanda said they have been paying Rs 300 per person to travel by jeep. “Even traffic police remain silent when transport entrepreneurs charged Rs 100 per person for three kilometer distance,” he said.
A driver said they cannot ferry the passengers collecting existing fares as they have been purchasing a liter of diesel paying money for two litres.
Dolraj Bhattarai, branch manager of the Western Nepal Transport Entrepreneur Committee, said they cannot say anything to drivers and vehicle owners as local administration has not provided them fuel.
