Investors have poured Rs90 million into small enterprises in Gulmi over the last one year, the Cottage and Small Industry Development Committee said. Meanwhile, the committee has collected Rs1.3 million in revenues.
In the last fiscal year 2014-15, a total of 328 small enterprises were registered, and entrepreneurs invested a total of Rs88.79 million on agriculture, production, hotel and other service sectors. In the previous fiscal year 2013-14, the number of new enterprises registered came to 186.
Chief of the committee Krishna Prasad Pokharel said that there were 2,414 small industries registered in the district. The enterprises are related to agricultural production, furniture, dhaka cloth and processing. “Our office has given training at village level, and entrepreneurs have been setting up factories.”
The government has categorized enterprises on the basis of their capital. Those with an outlay of up to Rs30 million are classified as small, Rs30-Rs100 million as medium, and those with a capital of over Rs100 million as big.
More than 200 women entrepreneurs have gone into business encouraged by the skill development programme. Computer operator Narayan Panthi said that a large number of women entrepreneurs had registered industries. Out of the 328 enterprises registered in the last fiscal year, 73 are owned by women.
