At a discussion held with various student organizations at the Ministry in Singha Durbar Sunday, Minister Pokharel said that he had already requested the Madhes-centric parties' leader and stressed the student unions should also play cooperative role to that end.
The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) has been on agitation in Tarai-Madhes protesting the provisions of the newly-promulgated constitution including federalism.
"The academic session and annual examination scheduled could not be altered. Obstruction to regular academic activities of the students would inflict serious loss. So, I request the agitating sides to allow school operation during the struggle," he added.
The Minister stated that he would soon make public a roadmap for the implementation of educational rights and overall reforms as there is no dispute from either side to make education a right-based agenda however there are some dissatisfactions on the constitution.
On the occasion, student leaders including ANNFSU Chair Kishor Bikram Malla, Nepal Students Union Spokesperson UP Lamichhane, ANNISU (Revolutionary) Coordiantor Ramesh Malla demanded the implementation of past agreements and enhancement of the quality of community schools.
Meanwhile, the Ministry in a press statement today drew the attention of authorities concerned not to charge high price and enroll the students who are not in the list of qualified.
The statement issued by Minister Spokesperson Dr Hari Prasad Lamsal noted that the concerned college should be held accountable if high price is charged for MBBS education in and outside the Valley.
The Social Committee of the Council of Ministers on September 17 had written a letter to the sides concerned to implement the decisions as per the Kedar Bhakta Mathema commission on the medical education fee and admission process.
