President hopes Tarai unrest will end
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has expressed hope that the unrest in the Tarai will end soon. The President expressed such sentiment after a delegation of women journalists urged her to take the steps as the country’s guardian to end the hardships faced by the people as a result of the conflict in the Tarai.President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has expressed hope that the unrest in the Tarai will end soon. President Bhandari also assured the visitors that she was serious about development of women.
“It is not possible for the country to develop by leaving aside half the country’s population. I will do my best to work for the development of women in all spheres,” assured the President, who is best known for her successful lobbying for 33 percent of women representation in all spheres of government sector.
Women journalists also requested the President to appoint a female press advisor in order to boost the morale of women journalists.
“We have huge expectations from you. We would like to suggest you to appoint a female press advisor which could prove to be a huge morale booster for women journalists,” requested Nirmala Sharma, president of Sancharika Samuha, a network of women journalists.
President Bhandari also stressed on the need for access to education for women. “Due to lack of education older generation of women were unable to compete for important positions,” she said.
