Transport entrepreneurs are found arbitrarily charging the passengers taking advantage of fuel crisis even in the critical hour.Transport entrepreneurs are found arbitrarily charging the passengers taking advantage of fuel crisis even in the critical hour. Entrepreneurs have complained that they were hardly getting fuel in Rs 300 a litre though it costs Rs104 at normal rate.
A passenger Dhruba Shah who was travelling to Jay Bageshwori from Swayambhu was compelled to pay Rs 65 as fare against a normal rate of Rs 25.
Similarly, passengers in other routes were also compelled to pay high fare in the capital itself.
Consumers Forum Nepal, Mid-Zonal coordinator Roshan Pokharel complained that the City Transport including other transports were charging fare arbitrarily. He further claimed that some buses refueling at normal rate were also found arbitrarily charging the passengers.
However, the monitoring body Department of Transport Management director Navin Pokharel said that they failed to monitor the fault playing in transportation sector due to lack of fuel stating that the Department itself could not operate its three vehicles for that purpose in lack of fuel.
He added that they remained silent at the beginning considering the crisis created by the blockade, now it has been reported that the black marketing in transport sector was on rise.
He further informed that Monitoring Department chief Basanta Adhikari was on leave for 15 days therefore they failed to carry out monitoring activities these days in his absence.
On the other hand, Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs' National Federation chair Dinesh Bhandari said that they had not decided to charge more fare than the government fixed rate and even they have urged all to take the usual fare in this critical hour. RSS
