Association of Private Educational Institutions of Nepal (Apein), an umbrella body of private schools and colleges, took the lead to organise this symbolic protest after the repeated appeals to create environment for smooth operation of the academic institutions were not heard. The demonstration will be held for an hour starting at 11 in the morning.
Fifteen arcs have been formed to make the event a success. The schools and colleges will participate in arcs closest to their location.
“Our children have been deprived of right to education,” said Karna Bahadur Shahi, chairman of Apien Steering Committee. “We believe this will be an effective way to send our message loud and clear.”
Shahi added that there will be no sloganeering and only national flags will be allowed in the demonstration.
Schools and colleges across the country are having trouble running their classes due to the acute fuel shortage caused by the border blockade and the ongoing protest in the Tarai. The academic institutions in several Tarai districts are closed for over three months now because of the protest. The blockade and the protest have affected the studies of more than eight million students.
