Make market monitoring effective, CIAA directs concerned bodies

In a meeting organised in the Capital on Sunday, the CIAA drew the attention of monitoring bodies to control black market to provide respite to the general public.
“You [market monitoring bodies] should work to ensure tangible results or else give up,” CIAA Spokesperson Krishnaharu Pushkar said. “Consumers are forced to bear the brunt due to inability of the monitoring body to act on the complaints from the consumers.”
He also warned that CIAA itself would become active and start monitoring if the monitoring authorities fail to make the monitoring effective.
At the programme, Chief District Officer Ek Narayan Aryal informed that the markets are being monitored and, so far seven petrol pumps and 82 people have been found involved in irregularities and action has been initiated against them.
Likewise, Kathmandu Police Chief Bikram Singh Thapa said a special watch would be maintained at Nagdhunga and Pharping in a bid to check black market. He said anyone found importing a huge amount of petroleum products with the intention of black marketeering.
Chief District Officer of Lalaitpur Yadav Koirala stressed on the need to keep watch on bigger business firms as they are responsible for the thriving black market rather than small traders.
