Organising a press conference on Sunday, the CIAA drew the attention of the monitoring bodies to the need to end public suffering by controlling black marketeering of essential goods.
“You [monitoring bodies] should work towards tangible results,” said CIAA spokesperson Krishna Hari Pushkar. “Consumers are forced to bear the brunt due to the inability of the monitoring body to act on the complaints from consumers.”
He warned that the anti-graft body would start market monitoring on its own if the authorities fail in their job. Pushkar asked the authorities to distribute fuel to the common people with priority.
At the programme, Chief District Officer Ek Narayan Aryal said the market was being monitored. He informed that action had been initiated against seven petrol pumps and 82 individuals.
Kathmandu police chief Bikram Singh Thapa said a special watch would be maintained at Nagdhunga and Pharping against haphazard entry of smuggled goods via the Tarai.
Lalitpur CDO Yadav Koirala stressed the need to keep bigger business firms under watch, holding them more responsible for the thriving black market.
