Meteorologists forecast rains, snowfall
The Meteorological Forecasting Division has cautioned that the deteriorating weather conditions since Sunday morning is expected to bring rains in the hills and plains and snowfall in the high mountainous region affecting trekkers and mountain flights.Weathermen have forecast rains in the hill and Tarai regions and snowfall in high mountains, which could affect trekkers and mountain flights.
The westerly trough that reached the western region Sunday morning has started to move towards the central and western regions, stated a special bulletin issued by the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) at 8a.m. on Wednesday.
There are chances of brief rainfall at a few places in the western region and one or two places of the central and eastern regions on Wednesday, and the condition is expected to continue until Thursday evening, the MFD said. As light to moderate snowfall in the high mountainous region of the country is expected, the MFD has asked trekkers and mountain flights to remain cautious, given the bad weather condition.
“The weather will remain cloudy throughout the country with rains in some places, causing drop in the day temperature,” said Subash Rimal, a meteorologist at the MFD. The continuous drop in temperatures for couple of days will intensify the cold waves, especially in Tarai districts, affecting thousands of poor people who are unprepared for cold.
On Wednesday, Jumla recorded the lowest day temperature (-1 degrees Celsius) while Biratnagar recorded maximum temperature (16 degrees Celsius), according to MFD.
