Speaking in response to criticisms from the opposition parties, who came down heavily on the Indian government for the crisis in Nepal, in Rajya Sabha (Upper House) of the Indian parliament on Nepal-India relations, Swaraj said India wanted to see a political solution in Nepal and resumption of supplies at the earliest “Still a way can be found… We are doing the same… We want to see a resolution through consensus so that supplies could be restored at the earliest,” Swaraj said, adding that India has conveyed a message to this effect to the Nepal government as well as the agitating Madhesi parties.
“We hope some solution will emerge in five-seven days,” she said.
Swaraj refuted accusations that India has imposed a blockade on Nepal. “India is keen to send supplies [to Nepal],” she said. “… 11,206 trucks, loaded with supplies, are waiting at the Raxaul-Birgunj border post.
“They have not able to move forward because of the protests, and we are not allowing them to come back, thinking they could get a chance to proceed,” said Swaraj, responding to remarks by a Congress I member that Nepal is facing a humanitarian crisis due to lack of medicines and other essentials.
Swaraj also said that 864 trucks entered Nepal from one border point on December 6, compared to 450 trucks that usually pass.
