It is believed after the implementation of high technology number plate system will help reduce vehicle theft and also compel defaulters to pay tax. The new number plate system includes micro chip with information about owner, the vehicle and taxes paid to the government. If implemented, it will be the first technology used for transparency in the country’s transportation history. “This system has already been used in developed countries and will be helpful in developing a systematic transportation system,” said Nabin Kumar Pokhrel, an engineer at the Department. Officials said the new system will also stop duplication of number plates.
“Once the embossed number plate is used, it does not need to be changed for five to ten years. The owner has to change the plate if it is broken or damaged,” Pokhrel said.
