Gurung, Tamang win 30km trail running

Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) runner Bhim Gurung and local athlete Sangita Tamang claimed the title of Batase Trail Run here on Saturday.
Gurung won the men’s 30km race in two hours 41 minutes and 52 seconds ahead of two Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) runners. Dhan Bahadur Dhami (2:45:41) and Ganesh Thakuri (2:49:36) took silver and bronze.
Tamang clocked 3:46:32 edged ahead of Anita Tamang (3:46:44) and Kumari
Tamang (3:49:32), both from Batase, in the women’s
30km. The top three finishers in both categories received Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
In the men’s 20km race dominated by APF Club athletes, Laxman Malla Thakuri finished first timing 2:02:04 hours. Thakur got the better of Jitendra Rai (2:05:56) and Narayan Thapa (2:07:07). Sonu Jaya Rai handed APF second gold in the one-day event winning the women’s 20km in 3:04:52. She left behind local runners Sapana Tamang (3:47:32) and Dolma Lama (3:48:32). The podium
finishers in both the categories got Rs 9,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 3,000.
Lama Om Syangtang and Sunita Tamang triumphed in the U-15 10km races. Syangtang won the boys’ event in 1:18:23 ahead of Pradip Giri (1:20:05) and Jitu Shrestha (1:22:25).
Tamang clocked 1:35:23 in the girls’ event travelling the distance in 1:35:23. Second placed Bibi Maya Tamang timed 1:45:30 and bronze
winner Apsara Chalise
took 1:46 hours. The tournament was organised by Friends of Himalayan Children in support from Take on Nepal.
