Binaya Shrestha is ‘Kantipur ko Karodpati’

Binaya Shrestha of Thankot won Rs10 million under the ‘Kantipur ko Karodpati’ subscription scheme of the Kantipur Publications.

Six-year-old Samriddha Jung Karki picked Shrestha’s name from the lucky draw, which was broadcast live on Kantipur Television on Wednesday. Shrestha’s subscription number was 79088.

Shrestha told the Post over phone after hitting the jackpot that he was extremely happy.

Krishna Gaire of Kathmandu District Administration Office, Narayan Khatiwada of Department of Information, DSP Narayan Prasad Chimoriya and Senior Advocate Ram Krishna Nirola were present when the grand prize was announced.

The subscription scheme was launched in February last year. But the four-month campaign was obstructed due to the April earthquake and fuel crisis in the country.

Under the scheme, subscribers of the Kathmandu Post and Kantipur dailies got scratch coupons that could instantly win them TVs, laptops, solar inverters, mobile phone sets and cash backs. Subscribers also won cash prizes of Rs100,000 every week and Rs1 million every month.

The Rs10 million jackpot won by Shrestha was the grand prize of the scheme.

“We are grateful to readers and distributors of the Kantipur Publications for making the scheme a great success,” Assistant General Manager Sunil Basistha said after the announcing the lucky winner of the grand prize on Wednesday.
