BRB says ‘Naya Shakti’ structure within a week
Jan 21, 2016-
Former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai is preparing to unveil the organisational structure of what he calls “Naya Shakti” within a week.
According to leaders, the two-month campaign that was launched to set up the organisational structure is about to end and that it will be announced amid a function.
Bhattarai, who severed his ties with the UCPN (Maoist) in September after the promulgation of the constitution, has said that his new force will be registered as a new party. Leaders said it will take a few months more before the new party is announced.
“We have entered the second phase of our party formation process,” Bhattarai told a group of journalists at his residence in Sanepa on Wednesday. “We will announce the [party] secretariat soon.”
Amid criticisms that the “Naya Shakti” has failed to attract people from non-Maoist parties, Bhattarai claimed that there will be “considerable presence of independent people” in his new party.
Regarding the ideology of new party, Bhattarai said it will be a “democratic left party”.
“Traditional parties with traditional structures and ideology cannot take the leadership of development and economic prosperity in the post-constitution period,” said Bhattarai.
According to him, the structures and ideology of the Nepali Congress, the UCPN (Maoist) and the CPN-UML are suitable only for political revolution but not for economic development.
“Traditional parties cannot function in an effective way, so we need an alternative political force with a new ideology,” he said. Unification of all nationalities and ethnic groups is another major agenda of new political force.
According to Bhattarai, corruption control and good governance will be another focus of the new party.
Regarding foreign policy of the new party, Bhattarai said there should be “a balanced relation” with both neighbouring countries China and India. “We should be a vibrant bridge between two powerful countries for economic
development of country,” Bhattarai said.
