There is a unique tradition in Taksera village of Rukum district where the locals provide free services for building houses of villagers.
The locals divided the works among themselves according to their expertise.
Experienced old men take charge of technical works such as breaking up the ground for setting up foundation and building the walls whereas inexperienced workers and strong youth are to carry heavy loads for the construction.
Young men and women mainly carry heavy woods from distance.
To add flavour to their work, the youth play a strange game while transporting the woods. The game is locally called “Baljanch”, meaning “checking the strength” in English. Two women tired of work are tied in their waist at one end of a rope and a tired man is tied at the other end. The side that wins in the pulling game is treated with lunch by the losing team.
