Offers of help have started pouring in for the families of those killed in police firing in Rangeli of Morang district during a clash with protesters on January 21.
People began to offer financial assistance and food for two destitute families who lost their kin in the incident after The Kathmandu Post and its sister publication Kantipur daily published the story of the families depicting their plight.
Kathmandu-based Sai Sewa Samiti (Sai service committee) on Wednesday held a programme in Rangeli on Wednesday and provided cash and clothes to the families of Mahadev Rishi Dev and Shibu Majhi, who were killed in police firing.
Chairman of the committee Dr Shundar Mani Dixit handed over Rs 150,000 to Rishi Dev’s family and Rs 100,000 to Majhi’s family. He also provided some warm clothes to the families.
Majhi family has been residing at a tin-roofed cottage built in other’s land. The deceased Majhi is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Similarly, deceased Rishi Dev’s wife and five sons have been living at a house of built in the land which is not registered in their name.
Dr Dixit said he was moved after reading the news report and went to extend help to the impoverished families.
At the programme, Dixit also felicitated husband of Draupadi Chaudhary, who was the third person to be killed in police firing in Rangeli.
Likewise, Janjati Kalyan Ashram has offered to bear education expenses of one each child of Majhi and Rishi Dev for up to graduation, while regional chairman of Satya Sai Sewa Organisation Jitendra Basnet declared that the organisation will take the responsibility for the education of Rishi Dev’s three children.
Sabita Agrawal Memorail Trust has offered to fund the education of Majhi’s one child for up to grade 10.
