ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup: Nepal slump to six-wicket defeat against Bangladesh
Nepal were out of the ICC World Twenty20 after crashing to a six-wicket quarterfinal defeat to hosts Bangladesh on Friday.Nepal were outdone by a fantastic partnership between Zakir Hasan and Mehedi Hassan for the fifth wicket as Bangladesh defeat Nepal by six wickets to reach the semi finals of the ongoing ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh on Friday.
Nepal looked all set to securing a historic semi final berth until Mehedi Hassan played a captain\'s knock to set a partnership of 117 runs with Zakir Hasan for the fifth wicket to steer hosts Bangladesh into the semis.
Nepal, after winning the toss and electing to bat, scored 211 runs with the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Nepal U-19 skipper Raju Rijal played a captain\'s knock scoring 72 runs off 80 balls before being run out in the 34th over.
Nepal lost its first wicket as Sandeep Sunar was bowled by Mohammad Saifuddin in the 6th over for 7 runs. He was quickly followed by Yogendra Singh karki who became the victim of run out in the very next over. Dhamala put up a score of 25 runs off 62 balls.
Sunil Dhamala scored 25 runs off 62 balls, number 7 batsman Dipendra Singh put up 22 runs and Aarif Sheikh put 21 runs on the board in 32 balls for Nepal.
Nepal U-19s lost their four of its wickets through run outs.
Mohammad Saifuddin from the Bangladeshi side was the most successful bowler picking two wickets.
Nepal bowled beautifully putting the Bangladeshi batsmen under pressure but could not pick wickets at the crucial moment to deny themselves a historic win.
Bangladesh lost their first wicket for 17 runs when Sunil Dhamala trapped Saif Hassan for a LBW. Pinak Ghosh and Joyraz Sheik managed to put 46 run partnership for the second wicket before Ghosh was run out by Sunil Kandel for 32.
The dangerous Nazmul Hossain was caught and bowled by Sandeep Lamichhane who finished the tournament as Nepal’s leading wicket taker. Sheik became Dahmala’s second victim when he was trapped leg before for 38. Zakir Hasan and Mehedi Hassan then orchestrated the Bangladeshi innings with a partnership of 117 runs off just 121 deliveries to steer Bangladesh into the Semi final.
Bangladesh will face the winner of the match between West Indies and Pakistan. Nepal had caught everyone’s attention when they beat New Zealand in the group opener and humiliated Ireland.
