Nepali swimmers Sofia Shah and Gaurika Singh set national records during the 12th South Asian Games here on Saturday.
Both swimmers set the personal milestone during their heats at the Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex. Shah set a new national in women's 200m freestyle with the timing of 1min, 13.18 seconds, while Singh set record in the women's 100m butterfly with the timing of 1min, 10.94 seconds. Both qualified for the finals as well. Another swimmer Sirish Gurung also made it to the finals of the men's 200m freestyle. Gurung clocked 2:9.92. All three swimmers will be back for the finals later in the evening.
Singh is competing in 12, Gurung in 12 and Shah in eight events. The Games offer 38 gold medals in swimming. Singh trains in London, while Gurung and Shah has been training in Thailand since June last year under the IOC scholarships.
