11 killed in Nuwakot road accident

Eleven people died and 12 others sustained serious injuries in a microbus accident at Madanpur-8 on the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Nuwakot district on Saturday. 

The speeding Trishuli-bound vehicle (Ba 1 Ja 7583) swerved off the road and fell over Keurini cliff. DSP Siddibikram Shah said eight of the victims died on the spot, while three succumbed to injuries during treatment in the Capital. The injured are receiving treatment at Birendra Military Hospital and Bir Hospital in Kathmandu.

Seven of the deceased were Nepal Army (NA) recruit receiving training at the NA training centre in Bidur, the district headquarters of Nuwakot.

Vehicle driver Damodar Kandel of Belkot in Nuwakot and NA recruits Laxmi Shrestha of Ramechhap, Santoshi Bogati of Okhaldhunga and Yasoda Karki and Ishwor Karki, whose address is still unknown, died in the incident. Identities of other deceased are yet to be ascertained, police said.
