This is the fourth ultimatum Dr KC has given to the government. His last ultimatum ended on Monday.
Dr KC said that he decided to defer his hunger strike after Prof Kedar Bhakta Mathema, civil society representatives, among others, asked for some additional time saying that they were working on addressing Dr KC’s demands on a war footing. “Based on their request, I have decided to postpone my hunger strike for now and hereby declare to sit for fast-unto-death from February 28 if my demands are not met till then,” said Dr KC.
His demands include annulling a bill on disputed Manmohan Memorial Academy of Health Science, end anomalies on health education sector, end political sharing while making appointments in the universities, among others.
Dr KC ended his seven round of hunger strike after signing an 11-point agreement with the government on September 4, 2015, for the formation of a Health Profession Education Commission to regulate the medical education.
