The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has marked its third zero poaching year for endangered rhinos.
The CNP marked 2015 as zero rhino poaching year amid a function on the premises of National Trust of Nature Conservation in Sauraha on Sunday. Observing zero poaching year means not a single endangered rhino was killed in 2015 in the CNP, the main habitat of the pachyderm in the country.
The country had earlier marked zero rhino poaching years in 2011 and 2014.
The park administration lauded the praiseworthy participation in rhino conservation.
Director General at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Phanindra Raj Kharel said that the success in wildlife conservation was achieved due to the reinstatement of various Nepal Army posts that were displaced during insurgency and use of modern information technology.
The effective law enforcement, proper coordination among the government, other concerned partners, security personnel and participation of local communities have been instrumental in achieving the success in wildlife conservation.
The park authorities said that 32 people involved in poaching wildlife and smuggling their parts were brought to book in the past 22 months.
