NC conventions over in 62 dists

In more than a dozen districts, conventions did not take place due to intra-party conflict, and disturbances created by Madhes-based parties. In Tarai, conventions have not been held in Bara, Siraha, Saptari and Sarlahi districts due to the obstruction.
In the election of district presidents, leaders close to Party President Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba are fielding their candidates. According to our district correspondents, the final result of the polls will come out by Tuesday.
The Jhapa district president of Nepali Congress has been elected unopposed. Udhav Thapa was chosen for a second consecutive term. In Makwanpur, Indra Bahadur Baniya was picked the chief of the party’s district committee. He is considered to be close to Deuba. Baniya defeated Raghuraman Neupane, who is from the establishment faction led by Koirala.
In Manang, Tek Bahadur Gurung of the Deuba faction was elected unopposed. In Arghakhanchi district, Bishnu Prasad Khanal had no competitor. The party has already completed the process of selecting convention representatives and VDC/municipality-level leadership.
In Sindhupalchok district, the jamboree has been delayed due to a dispute among the rival factions. In Bhaktapur, the process lags behind due to the delay in completing electoral constituency-level conventions. According to leaders, all the district conventions will be concluded by the third week of this month.
In Dolakha, the convention has been postponed indefinitely due to an internal dispute. In Jumla, the party event has been cancelled due to snowfall.
