Shrestha was diagnosed with the disease after a saliva test was conducted at Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory on Monday, following symptoms of high fever since the past nine days.
Shrestha’s aide Susan Karmacharya informed that the UCPN (M) leader is receiving medical attention at his home as per the advice of the doctors.
“He (Shrestha) had chest infection,” said Karmacharya, “We were expecting it to be typhoid. However, sputum tests revealed that he was suffering from Swine flu.”
The doctors have strongly advised against any visitors fearing transmission of the disease, said Karmacharya. She further said that there is a slight improvement in Shrestha’s health after taking the prescribed drugs.
