Foreign Minister A.H. Mahmood Ali, MP, paid a brief visit to Nepal today, 10 February 2016, to pay last respects to former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala who passed away in the early hours yesterday.
During his stay in Kathmandu, Minister Mahmood Ali conveyed the deep condolences on behalf of people and government of Bangladesh for the sudden and shocking demise of Koirala.
Former PM Koirala had been honoured as a “Friend of Bangladesh” in 2012 for his courageous support to the people of Bangladesh during the glorious War of Liberation in 1971, according to a statement issued by the People’s Republic Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali also held a brief meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa.
During their interaction, they expressed satisfaction at the existing excellent relations between Bangladesh and Nepal and expressed keen desire to further promote and strengthen this relationship for mutual benefit.
Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali returned to Dhaka later in the day.
