Daytime burglaries up in Valley: Police

Out of 111 theft cases filed in the first seven months of the running fiscal year, only five took place at night.
“All the daytime theft cases have been taking place in the private houses and residential areas when the people go to work,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Mukunda Marasaini said on Friday.
Police booked 63 people, including two women, for theft this year. Some of them are still in custody.
Compared to last year, the number of theft cases has also increased. According to the Division, 307 cases of theft have been reported this year so far while only 289 cases were reported last year.
Superintendent of the Police Sakul Bahadur Thapa said most of the night-time theft incidents take place in shops and financial institutes.
Two months earlier, Rs 200,000 was stolen from Makhamali Sahakari Finance in Jamal and Rs 225,000 worth laptop and camera from a financial institute at Gaurighat.
