Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on the disgruntled Madhes-based parties to give up their agitation and come on board the government.
Addressing the CPN-UML’s Lumbini zonal assembly in Bhairahawa on Friday, PM Oli asked the protesters to give up their strikes, shutdowns and violent activities.
“The Nepali Congress and the Madhes-based parties should join the government with a determination to develop the country,” he said.
The PM said emigrating youths should be mobilised within the country through skill development and industrialisation. “Establishment of agro-based industries should be the priority for making the country self-reliant.”
Oli said that activities aimed at propagating false rumours about the new constitution should be immediately stopped. “Demands that are against national interests will not be addressed,” said PM Oli. He made a promise to root out corruption and undertake development activities.
Seven SLMM supporters held
Police arrested seven Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha supporters after they tried to obstruct the assembly in Bhairahawa. Three SLMM activists were rounded up from Bangai and four from the Suryapura area. Police said they had obstructed vehicular movement by burning tyres on the road.
