The wild buffalo is currently found in the Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve while the swamp deer is endemic in the Shuklaphanta wildlife reserve and the Bardiya national park.
Chief conservation officer at the CNP, Ram Chandra Kandel, said Padampur area in the Chitwan national park would be appropriate place for the relocation of these animals.
"We are doing home work for relocating the wild buffalo from the Kosi Tappu wildlife reserve and the swamp deer from the Shuklaphanta reserve. Chitwan could also be the appropriate habitat for these animals," Kandel, who is in the Koshi Tappu reserve in connection with the feasibility study, said.
Kandel said Chitwan would be an ideal habitat for these two wild animals as it is located in the Tarai like the Koshi Tappu and the Shukla Phanta reserves, it has tropical climate and has ample marsh land, bush and grassland.
He argued that the relocation of these wild animals to CNP and their protection would go a long way in efforts towards conservation of these two species of animals and also to increase the number of prey for the growing number of tigers in CNP. RSS
