A person died and seven others injured on Wednesday after a boat carrying 50 pilgrims capsized in the Rapti River at Chitwan national park. Three of the injured are said to be in critical condition. The ill-fated boat was carrying the people heading to attend a religious fair at famous Bikram Baba.
Dev Kumar Shrestha, 5, of Lakka-1 in Solukhubu, died in the accident, SP at Chitwan District Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, said. Shrestha was rushed to Bharatpur Hospital for treatment where he was declared dead.
Dev Kumar’s brother Keshar Shrestha, 12, Binita Gurung, 22, of Bharatpur Sub-Metropolitan City, Durga Sunar, 35, of Kathar-8 in Chitwan, Ashma Gurung, 24, of Birendranagar Municpality-10, and her three-year-old son Gora Gurung , among others were injured, police said. They are undergoing treatmen at Bharatpur Hospital.
The boat was returning from Bikram Baba at around 1 pm. The pilgrims were rescued by the security personnel.
