In all, 100 golfers will vie for the championship to be played over 18 holes on a stableford format with 3/4 handicap allowance, informed the organisers at a press briefing on Tuesday. This year’s event in unique in that it offers lucrative gift hammers for winners and the runners-up of several categories.
“Since we are always trying to make this event a unique ones, we are offering gift vouchers worth upto Rs 100,000 which is redeemable at Gokarna Club or Hyundai for services and products,” said Awashis Ojha, Senior Brand Manager of Laxmi Inter Continental Pvt Ltd on Tuesday. Amateur golfers are not entitled to receive cash prizes and the sponsor came up with the idea to present them with lucrative gift vouchers.
The overall champion, the first runner-up and the runner-up will get Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 worth of gift hampers. Likewise, gross winner will receive a gift voucher of Rs 50,000, while junior, senior and ladies winners will all get gift vouchers worth Rs 20,000 each. Gift vouchers worth Rs 10,000 has also been set aside for the longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and most birdies award. The sponsor is also offering Hyundai i10 for hole-in-one.
Senior Golf Director at the Gokarna Golf Club, Deepak Acharya also informed that Laxmi Inter Continental Pvt Ltd is also considering sponsoring a professional event in near future. “They (Hyundai) are sorting out some minor details before announcing their pro event,” said Acharya.
