Chickenpox has been suspected in a dozen children in Banke and Bardiya districts.
Health workers say the ill children are below five. Though locals claimed the disease to be measles (Kheshra), health workers said the symptoms suggested chickenpox. They have yet to test the samples in a lab.
Vaccine Officer at Banke District Public Health Office Chakra Bahadur Khadka said they have been to the affected areas.
Khadka added that the communicable disease could turn into an epidemic if measures were not taken on time to contain it. The DPHO said they are studying the symptoms which include fever and blisters. The disease has been reported in Manikapur and Kohalpur of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis. Children in Mainapokhar, Sorhawa and Motipur of Bardiya have also been taken ill.
