A meeting held at the Ministry of Education among the ministry officials, student unions, parents and representatives from private schools on Friday decided to start the assessment from Monday.
“Around 13 student unions will be involved in the work. We agreed to include students to make the work efficient,” said Hari Lamsal, the ministry spokesperson.
The move from the government comes after the student unions found out that some schools were charging high tuition and admission fee.
According to Lamsal, two groups have been formed to review the fee structure of private schools both inside and outside Kathmandu Valley. These groups will investigate whether the schools are following the fee structure regulations set by the government and offering scholarships.
“We will not just inspect, we will also take action against schools found overcharging and make them return the amount,” said UP Lamichhane of Nepal Student’s Association.
The umbrella organisations of private schools—Pabson and N-Pabson—have voiced reservations over the government’s tuition regulations.
